Feeling Artistic? Design the Top of the Space Needle!

Calling all painters, drawers, doodlers, and all who get the inkling for artistic expression are invited to submit design ideas for a competition to showcase their art on the top of the Space Needle! That’s right, any US resident can apply to have their art displayed for 6 months in honor of the Seattle icon’s 50th Anniversary.

Judging will be done by 5 local judges who will review all online submissions choosing the top 5 contenders, and after selecting the luck few, the rest of us will get to weigh in on which design we’d like to look at for half a year. The winner does not have to be a local Seattleite, so if you have any artistic friends outside the city, give them a ring and have them submit a design opportunity of a lifetime. For more information on competition, visit the Space Needle Top This! website.

Plaza Garibaldi to Replace Jalisco in Queen Anne

There is a new Mexican restaurant going in to replace the old Jalisco’s restaurant in lower Queen Anne, on 1st Ave. N, in between John st and Denny Way. Jalisco had previously been a hot spot for patrons going to a concert/event at the Key Arena, and the new restaurant called Plaza Garibaldi is hoping for the same foot traffic as the building’s previous tenant.

According to Queen Anne View, Blake Taylor of Ewing & Clark, who leased the space to the new tenant said “It’s going to be a great Mexican-themed family friendly dining option that hopefully will be as popular as its predecessor during the Sonics era.” The new restaurant will have a  remodeled kitchen, and the bar, dining areas have been repainted. The potential opening date has not been released at this time.
