Sweat, Sprint And Sip Your Way To Fun At The 2017 Hot Chocolate Run!

It’s almost time to lace up those running shoes and sign up for the annual Hot Chocolate 15/5k run! This year’s yummy and fun event kicks off on Sunday, March 5th at Seattle Center How’s that for a great way to spend the first Sunday-Funday of March, both for seasoned runners and first-timers who aren’t afraid of a challenge!

The fun begins bright and early at 6:45a.m. with the 5K and the 15k starts at 7:55a.m. Race participants can expect a fun, well organized and challenging race through the heart of beautiful Downtown Seattle (hills and all!), a fabulous SWAG bag of goodies to take home, of course, delicious chocolate. Talk about motivation to finish strong!

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend your Sunday while getting a great workout, consider signing up for this once-a-year event. The challenge is worth it to get to the Post Race Party where runners will enjoy music, a family friendly environment and a ‘finisher’s mug’ filled with hot chocolate, chocolate fondue and delightfully dippable treats. Don’t count the calories, you will have more than earned this chocolate indulgence!

The Hot Chocolate Run isn’t just a great way to spend a day off. The Hot Chocolate Run is partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities, helping to provide a home-away-from-home for children and the families of children being treated at Seattle Children’s’ Hospital, at little to no cost to the families. A portion of the proceeds from signing up for this race will go to this outstanding cause, helping to make a real difference in our community.

Not into running or chocolate? That’s fine! But be aware, this race will take place in Downtown Seattle and along many main roads and thoroughfares, so you will want to plan ahead for any travel on that day. Take a look at the map (left) to see the route and read the chart below for a street closure timeline, to help you plan your day.

This event is great to do with friends, family or even by yourself. You’ll probably leave with new friends after a little friendly competition! This event brings together people from all over the city and state, so get out there, mix, mingle and help build a wonderful feeling of community in our fair city. Sprint into Springtime at this fabulous annual event, get a good sweat on and maybe even make some new friends….oh and eat chocolate! Do we really need to sell you on this?

Be Drop DEAD Gorgeous at EMP’s ‘Fashionably Undead Prom’

Live out your High school dream and Halloween nightmare (or is that the other way around?) at EMP this month with yet another installment of their ever-popular Fashionably Undead Prom.

If anyone knows how to throw a killer bash, it would be the EMP, and the Fashionably Undead Prom is one of their most awaited events. This Halloween party/just really fun time comes with admission to the museum itself, including the just-in-time-for-Halloween exhibit “Can’t look away: The lure of the horror film”, perfect or a fun-filled fright night!

This years’ theme is “Under The Sea” which should lead to a fun, funky and ghastly good time!

From the website-

20,000 leagues under the sea a murderer lurks in the deep… is it a psycho killer? A teenage werewolf? An enormous, insatiable shark? Whoever it is, they have a thirst for greasers, mods, and freaks—and word on the street is they’re coming to prom!

Hold your date close to avoid a run-in with the mysterious killer as you jive, jitterbug, and twist the night away to a DJ dance party and enjoy live music by Prom Queen, playing sickly sweet pop tracks inspired by pinup girls and 1960s housewives.

Get a bouffant or pompadour from Bowie Salon and show it off at our prom photo booth. Munch on a slice of pizza from Wicked Pies or sneak drinks of spiked punch. Throughout the night, have fun roaming the museum with your pals as you try to solve the interactive yearbook game.

Plus, enter the costume contest for a chance to win killer prizes and to show off your deadly cool duds! You may just be voted Prom King or Queen.”

This years’ bash will be held on Saturday, Oct.22nd and is sure to be a hair-raising good time.

Costume ideas are boundless but, you can’t go wrong with Zombie Prom King or Queen, any teenaged dream (think James Dean, Suzy-Q, Cry Baby, Frankie and Annette…)  or even undead sea life at this aquatic themed bash (we’re thinking Zombie Mermaid or Poseidon, bloody trident and all!) A photo from last years' photo booth

With EMP as the host and location, this even is sure to have every base covered for a screaming good time, possibly even the party of the year.

Either way, we’re sure it will be to DIE for.

Nightly Lane Closures of SR 99/Aurora Ave Begin Tonight

The traffic nightmare continues…

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has announced that, starting tonight at 8 p.m., the nightly closures of SR 99/Aurora Avenue North will restrict southbound access for evening drivers. Each evening between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Thursday, December 17th, one southbound lane of SR 99 between Roy and Mercer Street will be closed. This closure will re-occur on Monday and Tuesday next week (December 21st and 22nd).

Next weekend, SR 99 will be completely closed between Valley Street and just south of the Battery Street Tunnel from 9 p.m. on Friday through 5 p.m. Saturday. During this closure, all northbound and southbound lanes will be closed at this segment of SR 99, with the northbound lanes re-opening at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The southbound lanes will re-open at 7 a.m. on Saturday, although one southbound lane will remain closed until 1 p.m. on Saturday between Valley and Thomas streets.

In January, the SR 99 closures will affect Queen Anne commuters even more with round-the-clock closures. One lane in each direction will be closed for about seven weeks between Highland Drive and the Aurora Bridge. In addition, WSDOT is closing another lane nightly for additional work zone space. This particular closure is to allow contractor crews to install foundations for new traffic signs necessary to alert drivers to the road changes that are taking place on SR 99 between Highland Drive and Denny Way.

Click here to check out an extensive, interactive simulation of how this part of SR 99 and its adjoining roadways will change in the coming months as the Mercer Corridor project reaches its next stages of construction.
