Queen Anne Events: Things to Do in May

May is jam-packed with festivals and other events… check them out and mark your calendars!

May 6: iFest Indie Game Festival
11am – 3pm | Seattle Center Armory
Indie gamers, take note! iFest 2017 comes to Seattle on May 6th. This is a FREE festival for independent game developers: from new startups and established studios to anyone who thinks they might have what it takes to imagine, design, build and market games.

May 6: “The Magic Flute” Opening Night
7:30pm | McCaw Hall
Savor the myth, magic and music in a performance of Mozart’s colorful fantasy, “The Magic Flute”. Opening night of this Seattle Opera event is Saturday, May 6th. “The Magic Flute” runs through Sunday, May 21st, with a closing performance on that day at 2 p.m.

May 7: Scandinavian Pancake Breakfast
8am – 1pm | Swedish Club NW
The Swedish Club NW’s monthly pancake breakfast is an authentic Swedish pancake breakfast complete with ham, lingonberries and all of the fixings. This month, it will take place on May 7th, with live music by Skolkis, Folk Voice Band and the Swedish Women’s Chorus. The price is $9 for adults, $7 for club members and $5 for children ages 5-12.

May 7: Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Festival
11:45am – 5pm | Seattle Center Armory
Seattle Center’s Festál continues in May with the celebration of Asian Pacific Islander Heritage month. On May 7th, visit the Seattle Center Armory to enjoy this free family event, with dance, music, art and more to showcase the culture and traditions of Asians and Pacific Islanders.

May 10: GiveBIG Day
All Day | Queen Anne
Support your local Queen Anne nonprofits this GiveBIG day! On May 10th, donate to these hardworking and wonderful local nonprofit organizations: Swedish Club NW, Picture Perfect Queen Anne, the Queen Anne Farmers Market, Queen Anne Food Bank, Queen Anne Helpline, Seattle Children’s Museum, and the Queen Anne Historical Society.

May 13: Spirit of Africa Cultural Festival
12pm – 8pm | Seattle Center Armory
Enjoy, learn and participate in Seattle Center’s Festál celebration of the talents of African musicians, dancers and artists. The Spirit of Africa celebration is on May 13th, with some exciting festival performances for the whole family. Click here for more information.

May 13: Annual Auction at the Swedish Club NW
5:30pm – 10pm | Swedish Club NW
The biggest fundraising event of the year at the Swedish Club NW is May 13th, with an auction themed, “Back to Our Roots”. There will be beautiful items for bidding, plus a delicious meal. The cost is $95 per person or $475 for a table of 6.

May 20: Dance Around the World
All Day | Seattle Children’s Museum
The Seattle Children’s Museum is hosting a day of cultural celebration through dance on May 20th! Guest performers will share and demonstrate traditional dances and storytelling.

May 20: Glimpse of China Cultural Festival
10am – 8pm | Seattle Center Armory
Seattle Center’s Festál presents “A Glimpse of China”, a cultural celebration that showcases the cultural roots and contemporary influence of China. There will be live performances, hands-on activities, visual arts, food, games and more – all family friendly and free to enjoy!

May 26-29: Northwest Folklife Festival
All Day | Seattle Center
One of Seattle’s most anticipated events of the year, Folklife, returns for its 46th annual celebration on May 26th through 29th. Learn, dance, play, discover, and more! This festival is all about showcasing the arts and culture of our unique city.
