A new restaurant is opening in Queen Anne, Mezcaleria Oaxaca, by owners of the Ballard eatery, La Carta De Oaxaca. The space was once occupied by Flame, a burger joint and is apparently undergoing interior improvements before it opens. I’ve eaten at La Carta De Oaxaca, and if the new restaurant is anything like the Ballard favorite, I’ll be sure to stop by. The name, Mezcaleria Oaxaca, comes from the word “Mezcal”, the general term for agave-based liquors or “tequilas”. Tequilas produced out of around the city of Oaxaca are the only liquors that can be labeled and sold as Mezcal. At any rate, I can’t wait for the place to open because nothing is better than some tequila and spicy salsas. Keep an eye on the website for more information and for an opening date. See you there!
The annual Spoke & Food fundraising event is happening next week, Tuesday January 28th. The event was created to promote healthy lifestyles and a greener community, and raise money for charities. The event encourages people to ride their bikes to one of a number of host restaurants in Seattle, and multiple neighborhoods are participating. Via Tribunali’s Queen Anne location is the 2011 host restaurant in the neighborhood. The host restaurants will be donating 20% of revenues earned to a non-profit benefactor. You can see a full list of host restaurants on the official website, here. Take a ride next Tuesday, get some exercise, eat some great food, and support a good cause. It will give you a reason to indulge in some guilt-free pizza!
